Hey every one! Just a quick note to let you know that I just read this article by Peter Kirn and it reminded me of my won woes when I was setting up my new laptop the other week.
My new laptop shipped with both USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. In theory, 3.0 is supposed to be transparent in terms of backwards compatibility, but I soon found out when I tried to install my audio interface, it wasn’t. The drivers and Windows both detected my NI Audio2Dj and Cakewalk UA-1G, but within the device manager, they both returned the error “the device could not be started”. I was a bit baffled as everything else I had put on the port had worked, which was all 2.0. However on a hunch I threw it on the 2.0 port and everything worked fine.
I suppose the best all one can do right now is to wait and an keep and eye out for updates and stick to your 2.0 ports if possible for audio devices. The good news is though is that every controller I have works fine on the 3.0
