Mark “Sparky” Paltridge is the proud owner of a one of a kind studio that’s been built into a shipping container, way down Australia. Based in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland of Queensland, Australia since 2004, Spark1 Studios has already become the coast’s premier recording studio for discerning musicians.

Being somewhat of a modernist myself, I’ve had fantasizes of building a getaway house out of several containers, or more modestly, a backyard bar. However it never occurred to me that a studio could be built into one if you’re short on space. I did a bit of checking around into them and you can sometimes find them used and have them delivered for about 2,000$ and the smaller “PODS” type ones fit well within a typical HOA shed requirements. It’s certainly much cheaper (and cool!) than remodeling a spare room or garage.
