New Steinberg Synths
We’ve known about Steinberg’s Padshop for quite a while, but what seems to have flown under the radar was its companion release of their groovy bassline synth Retrologue. Why I find this particularly exciting is because it looks and sounds like it’s built on spinoff technology from the synth that comes built into Halion, which IMO is fantastic sounding and is extremely close to sounding like the Roland SH-201.
The only thing missing it looks like is the ring modulator, third oscillator and the filter section looks a bit stripped down. But most exciting of all is that you can select “multi” for each oscillator which essentially gives you the supersaw or square or super what have you for both oscillators. Factor in the dedicated sub oscillator and we’re talking some serious, serious sounds.
And even best, best of all? It’s only 50$. I seriously cannot believe we haven’t heard more about this synth! It’s one very smooth sounding digital synth, so please check it out. I truly believe the Steinberg stuff is in a class of it’s own and I’ve been a user in one form or another of their products since 1998.
Padshop is also 50$ however there’s a pro version that let’s you add your own samples that comes with additional content and that runs for 80$. Padshop is Sterinberg’s promise to deliver granular synthesis made easy and at 50$, it’s certainly worth checking out as well.
