WE STILL PLAYIN' KEYS?

Postby akliner » Thu Mar 28, 2019 4:09 am

What do you guys think about playing the keyboard? Has the moment passed? Are there TOO MANY notes?

Sound off below!

I have returned.

Yeah I do music for screen now and they're just easier to work with.

I'm all samples :(

I actually am playing MOAR KEYS lately (including KEYBOARD WITH MODULAR), having gotten into the habit of partially-scoring stuff on Finale the last few months.

My "USB controller only" is a StudioLogic VMK161. It is showing its age (the main encoder only recognizes one direction now). But the software part of that never worked very well to begin with, so that's no big deal. The part that matters, the keys, works just fine. 61 key piano action controllers just don't exist these days (they never really existed that much back then either).

I use samples as well. It allows me to pretend I have the budget for a Mahler size orchestra or something. :idk:

It looks like the real one this time...

I'm playing more guitar these days than keys. But this weekend I just put my keyboard rig back together.

Good to see you Alex!

While it would be very gratifying if that were true, I remain skeptical.

But anything's possible, so, Mr. "akliner": I invite you to say something only you would say.

Al as in Kaliner???? you can call me Al he said!!
We have a famous soundtrack composer in our midst and although he's not been featured on Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous, it's good to see and read a familiar face from the old forum which will go unmentioned since I'm old and forgetful and don't recall it's name.

Too many notes? yep, today's modern musician likes to carry everything he uses to make music with, in their wallet. The micro foldable 6 keys midi usb controller which uses wifi, and the millenials who choose notes from a Kiosk so they can avoid human contact.
I'm waiting for the Behringer 101 key midi usb controller to be released, really you can't have TOO many notes to choose from, plus they will be great for duets. Touring musicians with two keyboards set ups, won't need two anymore, both keyboard players will be able to sit next to each other while playing their parts on the Behringer 101 MSRP $99 Behringer 101M(offers motorized faders, micro refrigerator and 2 20" LED screens, MSRP $149.

welcome back back back back!!(please turn the delay down) :drink:

I haz been busy downsizing my studio even more, selling bunches of gear that has been hoarded over the years and stored in the closets.
Wife is retiring in 3 weeks, and then it will be beach bums and I'm afraid my music may take a change towards the Jimmy Buffett Island music genre.

I can't believe I didn't make that joke

I think 61 keys is enough for me although sometimes I dream of 88. I think I've mentioned this, but just for the pure sake of it, I'd love a nice piano quality weighted controller.

When I do ambient, it's really nice to have that many keys to do big, wide chords on and it just feels nice honestly to have a nice set of keys. Feels good man.
