I might have even kept mine if it looked like that. Darn good sounding synth, that.

Why do people call a proper 5-octave synth "huge"?

No man, that thing has serious dimensions...it's deep and wide, larger than many proper adult sized synths. ..just not the OBs

It's about the same depth (roughly 16") as my Alesis Andromeda. A little smaller than a Roland JD-800.
So... big-ish. Not HYUGE though (eg say Oberheim Matrix 12).

About the same as an Andromeda and a little smaller than JD-800? Sounds like a proper synth to me :idk:

Some of y'all must be getting used to the baby keys stuff :poke:

The sound is a little hit or miss with me, though I think it does well to say that I don't usually get on with Waldorf's wabetables at all, hard to say, might just be the choice of patches.

It sounds a lot like the Blofeld, doesn't it? But with knobs, buttons, sliders oh my!

I think the sound in the demo sucks, it doesn't seem like a direct recording. This is a direct recording:

Don Solaris created a patch set for the Blofeld that really shows off the VA engine. Some patches named after a few of us here, even :) I loved the ChristianRock patch... :)

This is the Blofeld soundset, if this doesn't make you want a Blofeld I don't know what will...

SuitAndTieGuy patch around 3:25
Christian Rock patch at 23:20 :)

Yeah... but they are kind of under the radar. The black Sledge is interesting in that its a semi-weighted keyboard... which is kind of rare for pure VAs.

The black Sledge also looks IMHO a *lot* better than the yellow Sledge.

Is the Sledge just a Blofeld with a keyboard...?

With a SMACKTON of KNOBS and SLIDERS. That's kind of important, you know. *smack on the side of EP'S head*

It's also stripped down compared to the Blofeld engine, unfortunately. Less modulation options, less filters, and less wavetable oscs available, from what I've heard. (Though some of the "missing filters" are available via MIDI CC.)

Accidental youtube find, not a huge fan of string machines, some of these are still rather good, the Opus 3 filter howls like a Clanger with electrodes on it's testicles.

Lulz factor: amateur cameraman rips a juicy fart at 3:14 and asks if it's going to be edited

Had a bit of a nosey round at PMT this afternoon, mainly looking at MIDI controllers to replace that cheapy one with the yellow keys I've been using of late.

Anyhow, I had to have a bit of a try out of a few bits and noticed they had the new Vox Continental in that I've been gassing over for a while, sounds great in all the demos I;ve heard... build quality is awful on it, keybed is very poor like nothing is there, even the keyboard guy I got chatting to about it agreed it was poor for the just under £2k price point... I'd go further and say it was worse than the £250-£400 range midi controllers I tried. Overall build looks cheap and given the state of the keybed I suspect is.

They fucked that one up real good.

I very nearly came out with a Kontrol S49 Mk 1, shop didn't realise they had it then after about 10 minutes of dicking around on the computer decided it was part of their used stock and £189, well I bit 'cos that was too good a deal, was just working out if the box would go on the back of my bike when the guy dicking with the computer finally decided it was actually ex-demo and £360... well for that much I'd sooner think about it.

Shame about that Vox Continental, does show though that you really do need to get out there and see how kit feels to play.
