Used iPhones are cheeep. Plus I have a realy old one and now the battery is taking a shit, but a replacement battery is a couple bucks. Changing them is only a bitch because it has the smallest screws I've ever seen, but it only takes a few minutes.

ya i use my phone mostly as a note pad for lyrics

when i write rap music there's a ton of words in each song and i try not to have the same 2-3 topics, favour of the month style, etc

sometimes the timing is important so i have a system of placing "pick up" notes/words before the dash - which is always the 1 down beat, i"ll put in a coma to mark the end of a bar, underscores for 1/8 or 1/4 note breaks. sometimes i have to mark the spots where to breathe lol

it's not always best to write while driving because if it's not formatted i'll forget how the verse goes after a while. siri has made some improvements now it's like 5/10 instead of 2/10 but android is much better at translating spoken to text imo

Greg, I use the voice memo app ALL THE TIME to whistle riffs, or bang out beats on the table top to flesh out later. If I don't "jot" something down that way, I'll end up forgetting it two seconds later.

I envy you, CR, to be able to hear a "finished" song in your head. I can't do that.

The inevitable problem with hearing a "finished" song in your head (which I can do) is recording it exactly how it sounded in your head (for me, much less success in that department).

Me neither, these days I find it better not to get too many ideas in my noggin and to just let it flow a bit more when I start to work on it.

oh I never have that problem !!

I've always likend myself more towards a sculptor or someone who works with a physical medium that way. I sort of work through some stuff in front of me until I can get rid of the bits that aren't what I want, until I'm left with what is.

I wish I could hear a whole "something" in my head and work that way.. you guys are lucky..

NEW TOYZ.

Image

Most of this actually is "not new", thankfully. What *is* new is the two new Synthesizer Technology E370 modules (the two large modules with the big LCD screen) that replace several others, and rejigging some of the rack to put some Handy Dandy LFOs right by it.

I can now haz Boutique. Oh noez!

The modular gizmos look great!

I didn't even know about the Roli SE-02 till a few weeks ago when I saw one @ GC of all places. But they didn't even have it out of the display case, let alone out of the box. I always wanted to try an original one; seemed like a good solution to unrequited Mini lust. But used ones were always overpriced imo. I'll be interested to see what you think of the sound...

I've unfortunately had no experience with previous Studio Electronic Minimoog inspired stuff. I haven't had much more time to go through much more than "play with presets, turn some knobs". My impressions are very good so far. It's kind of it's own thing.

It can get pretty close to Moog but I don't think it's 100%, and it's a little harder to tame towards that smooth Moog style if that's what you want. Still, it's pretty easy to spin knobs and come up with makes some very thick basslines and leads. Thicker than the Waldorf Pulse I had for sure. It's also hard to make a "bad" sound, good for times where you just want to twiddle.

It also reminds me of the Pulse in that the feedback and whatnot produce some pretty nice (MHO) screaming buzzy distorted timbres. The Minimoog never really went into super-heavy distorted mode from what I recall (though my experience is limited) and that's the side of the SE-02 that I'd say is the most "different", along with a little added flexibility (dedicated LFO, XMod, etc.)

SE02 is good... nice thick bass, can get aggressive, can also get kinda Minimoog-y.

Yeah, a lot of Roland's decisions have been disappointing compared to Korg or others...subscription software sucks. :p At least so far their collaborations seem to be good deals.

Agreed. Subsciptions suck. But they also give you the option to outright buy. Which is leaps and bounds better than subbing if you ask me. Still in love with my S8.
