Can any of you guys help me out with a funny bit of score?

Postby Purity_Control » Sun Oct 22, 2017 2:08 pm

I'm buggered if I can work out what's going on here, which is weird enough because I never come across sheet music stuff where I can't figure it out sooner or later. Google is not my friend.

Any of you guys got an idea what's going on with bars 2 and 3 on the lower staves? I'ts clearly some alternate way of scoring a trill which is what seems to be going on in the actual track

Image

Go in around 5.50 for that round of 'dum-pen de-bat's, and it's over the 3rd 'de-bat' - it's just bugging me that it's using some scoring system I'm not familiar with, like what's with the incomplete beams on notes? also, am I supposed to trill the entire chord against the lower note! :freak:

Btw I am not totally playing all the instrument parts here, most of it is easy enough to put all the 4 vocal parts on left hand with a bit of inversion going on, if I can't get both of the piano parts on right hand I drop the least interesting bit and figure I'll come back and pick it up on pedalboard once I've learned the rest of the piece.

If only we knew a friendly Italian who loves synths. :freak:

This type of notation is used to indicate tremolos.

A single figure is made up of two noteheads of identical value (in this case, dotted half notes) that are beamed together in a way that indicates the speed of the tremolo.

The rhythmic length to be played is that of one of the beamed half notes. You would alternate between the two noteheads at a speed of 32nd notes for the duration of three beats.

Ah smart, it's kind of what I thought... just got a bit thrown there.

What if the beams are load bearing?

Than what?

That means that this passage bears the brunt of the weight for the tune compared to the rest of the orchestra.
It is not safe to remove or significantly alter this passage. Failure to play it correctly will result in orchestra collapse.

Yes, I would have been confused by that as well. Well, I still am... tremolo on the right and left hand? That will take some practicing

Had a go last night and it's nowhere near as bad as it looks.

Tempo is fairly slow and it's in 3/4 time so only 16 dotted 32nd notes to the bar, most of the gross movement is from the arm/wrist so more like 8 strokes of the hand.

The chord/lower octave note is trickier, gonna drop the Bb for now while my hand gets used to the rest then add that in when I've a bit more flexibility.
