Korg:
SV-1

Rhodes:
Polaris

Ensoniq:
SQ-80

Waldorf:
Microwave XTk

DSI:

Wurlitzer:

Yes. Yes, I do. I hardly use it, I just haven't clicked with it.

Hmm... I'll count ONLY KEYS. Actually ended up being kind of a small list for 20+ years of Synthing...

Bold ones are the only ones left. Of those, only the Andromeda and P6 see "regular usage". :idk:

Alesis: QS6, Andromeda
Korg: X5
DSI: Prophet 6
Kawai: K5000S, K3
Roland: Juno 106, VK7, D-50

Pupster, I'm happy to know you owned a Wurlitzer 145. You never speak of it. I assume it's gone, but what is your analysis?

Sample mangling was the lure that made me get it, but I haven't actually tried to use it that way. Turns out, I don't have patience for sampling, or an ear for recognizing stuff that would make good sample fodder.

I still have it. It needs some reassembly, and there's a pretty substantial background hum that I've never been able to find. It's the transistor version, not the tube version.

But when I played it, it's basically Supertramp to a T. I rather like the action on it, it's very playable.

Time for some throwback pics!

And here's the Wurly, still pretty much in this state. I do have the legs, though:

Hmmm not a whole lot.

RACK SYNTHS/CONTROLLERS
I've had a Fantom XR, a Korg NS5R and the N1R, all controlled at first by a Roland A-80 and then an A-90. I still have an EX-8000 but I need to replace the battery to make it function again.

KEYBOARD SYNTHS
As far as actual keyboard synths, I had the SH-201 and have an also non-operational DW8000.

And my main synth for years has been the Alesis Fusion (first I had a 6HD, then some 3-4 years ago I swapped it for an 8HD).

The only change I see in the near future is that I want to add the expansion memory on the 8HD like I used to have in the 6HD that I sold.

SOFTWARE
I have Komplete 8, Alicia's Keys (piano), Maschine software, Miroslav Orchestra. But honestly I feel far more comfortable using the Fusion...

ZOMG. This is precisely why it's a good idea to put the audio outs of your dvd/bluray player into your DAW because I LOVE putting audio things from movies into songs (a la Skinny Puppy, etc). Thence, mangle.

I like this news very much! I officially encourage you to get it up and running and I wish for it to be a prominent piece in your studio!

Obviously you already thought of grounds, but be aware that these pianos are notorious for ground issues, I not only recommend checking every last ground, but even go as far as to add grounds in appropriate places.

Also, take a look at all the fuses, they used to use tiny fuses that are wrapped in coils of copper wire which is connected to the board. Take a test lead and jumper them; sometimes it's as easy as that to get it going. If so, replace the fuse and use a modern pigtail fuse holder for when it happens again.

Otherwise, keep us informed on your progress!

I'd like to see a new song on my desk by April 1st.

That Wurly is actually the very first keyboard I ever bought for myself, in spring of 1984, for $50. The Juno 106 (and a Korg EX800, now part of Metro's collection) was bought a year later.
