Roland System 8

Postby ClavAnother » Sat Mar 04, 2017 5:12 am

I am wondering if it is possible to load two instances of the SH-101 plug-out on the System 8, and then go into dual mode and have a two oscillator SH-101.

Any plug-outs can be shared between the upper and lower parts, so no but yes.

Constructionwise, it's not nearly as robust as the OB6, but it seems sturdy enough. If I were gigging with it, I'd keep an eye on it at all times, but the controls feel pretty good. I like the keybed too.

Guys. Deepmind 12 vs System 8. I thought I was sold on the Deepmind, but now I just don't know. Help me decide. Go.

I don't know that we can decide anything other than say, "get both"

Seriously, that will totally depend on what you want it for and how it matches the rest of your setup (or your planned setup). Like, if you're working with the King KROG, what does it not do that you want it to do? Then see which one would fit those needs better...

YOU GUYS. Not both. I need to get my back porch screened in, so that only leaves fundage for one of them.

The KingKROG can do anything, pretty much. But it sounds like a Korg. Not a bad thing at all, but when you want something different than the "Korg" sound, do you want a Roland sound or a Deepmind sound. I just don't know anymore. The Roland board is capable of SO much more and does have the typical Roland sound that I like. But the Deepmind is 12 voice, and also sounds Roland-y.

I just don't know! I both hate and love having to make these decisions. So hearing what my trusted synth frens would do if they were in my shoes helps.

OK how about this: Since this is the System 8 thread (see title), you clearly need to get the System 8. It is foretold.

Or in this case: Both.

Get both.

How about this: If everything else between them balances out sonically/aesthetically/whatevs, then go for the least expensive.

Well, it doesn't balance out really. Because the Deepmind is the Deepmind but the Sys 8 can be anything Roland decides to make a plugout for.

I, *personally*, would pick the System 8, because it is a flexible system that they could add other stuff to later, and because I think it looks better. The Deepmind doesn't really grab me.
