I must be domesticated, because having to come to work is actually a good motivator for me to get out of bed :) I don't mind coming to work as long as I get paid...

In Australia we have "superannuation" - the employer pays the employee around 10% to a fund which we can't touch until retirement age, which I think is 65 right now.

Mine is pretty crappy at the moment, mainly due to the fund invested heavily in the sharemarket which dived and I lost half of it in the GFC.

So, I can't rely on that to retire - I'll need to either keep working or hopefully build up a real estate portfolio so that I can live on other people paying me rent. Got one already, only need another 20 :-)

I agree with SI - I'd love to retire as early as possible and do stuff I'm interested in, hobbies, charities, missionary work. I'm blessed to have a job, but I'd be more blessed to be super rich, no need to work and just do fun stuff :-)

You're ahead of me, Bonso. At least you have one rental property already. I technically don't even have a house, it'll still belong to the bank for a few more years...

Classes have started again for me. Break is over! (sadness ensues.)

I'm wondering if I should panic. The topics being covered JUST THIS WEEK ALONE are partial derivatives, derivatives and integrals of trig functions, a foray into curve fitting and "least squares" approximations, 3-space and surfaces, and volumes.

Holy shit. BYE GUYS IT WAS NICE KNOWING YOU

You will become the math genius, EP. Either that, or a lunatic. But either way - it will be fun to watch :)

Calculus II class: Complete.
State of final: Unknown, harsh test was harsh.
New class: "Statistics for Scientists and Engineers".

On the plus side, this will be my next-to-last math class, and the last math class isn't until August. BLARGH. MATH IS HARD

selfinflikted wrote:I'm surprised you haven't already, EP. I once tossed around the idea of going back and getting my masters in geography, but it's really just pointless. I'm probably, barring any unforeseen circumstances, going to be with my current employer until retirement (15 years, or so baby!) so other than just furthering my education for my own good, it'd just be superfluous for this job.

Also, wish me luck on upgrading my title. Should hear something this week!

Yea I'm not sure why i went back for my masters either :idk: Although at the time, I was about as high up as I could go and when I finished, i ended up getting this job, which is a fast track to my boss' job and yea, I'm less than 15 in the hole myself.

And come to find out, I have no interest in teaching at all. I'm happy to be involved with education, but glad I don't have to deal with students or other faculty on a daily basis. Doing it full time really pushes you into one of those are you an inmate or the keeper things. le sigh.

I'm a lot happier now but I've got a degree for I dun know what anymore. But I will say it was better doing than not doing, especially when i didn't have any prospects out there.

congrats on the grades EP :smoke:

Quick mid-term report: Statistics isn't too bad (at least for the material we're covering.) The math is reasonable, bu tedious if you don't enlist the help of Excel. Lots of sample values means lots of addition. Bleh. Error-prone if you do it by hand.

So yeah. Halfway through another class. I'm still waiting to hear on the results of my challenge exam for my April class. If I got at least 80%, then I can skip it!

My next class starts this Monday. I haz a sad. It's been really nice not having some assignment or quiz/test to stress out over for a whole month!

This is gonna be a long stretch this time, though. 10 classes in a row, bam , bam, bam!
