Arduino Uno: you know?

Postby Plink Floyd » Fri Oct 19, 2012 6:13 am

The Arduino brand one is $25 + shipping @ Mouser. But now there are China clones for $16
shipped lol. They claim to use the same proc, so how bad can they be?

Weird. I was just looking at the possibility of getting a Raspberry Pi last night. Unfortunately, they can't seem to make them fast enough and no body has any.

Sooooo I looked for alternatives. Arduino is certainly priced right, but I want something that'll run Linux. Beagleboad looks real nice, but a tad pricey.

And I've still got that Atmel STK600 board that I was using to develop my (aborted) MIDI controller with. I should get back to that...

for the raspberry pi waiting periods are anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months and the gert board maybe even longer

still it would be great as a mini linux box !

arduinos are cool too there are seemingly unlimited projects for geeky musicians

I want to make a diy 48 input finger drum gizmo.

I've been fiddling with some different trigger pad ideas, & I think I'm getting some pretty good results.

The main breakthrough so far is the discovery that I can power my trusty old Weller WTCPT soldering station with my variac. With that station, the changeable tip is what determines the fixed temp, and the lowest you can get is 600f. Way too hot for soldering wires to piezo discs. But if I plug it into the variac, I can adjust it to whatev. Now I need to get some more piezos to replace the ones I've burned up.

I have been studying my Juno-106's innards and their workings, and I believe, with an ATMega and a little extra waveshaping hardware, it might be possible to add a second (or even third) independently tuned oscillator to each voice.

Would a discussion of such geekery be of interest to anyone?

Well of course! Make it so, Number UNO.

I've considered gutting ye olde Polaris and driving the voices with a modern CPU. I'd give it a unison mode, a more flexible velocity range, maybe more modulations. It would be fun.

I have a half of a 106 here that I could mess with, too, but it's missing all of the voice chip modules.
