Trippy-take-a-whutta? (quickly googles...)

Oh, you just had to play the Eastern Mystical Religion Card, huh? Well, what started out as a little fun has escalated beyond the bounds of tasteful teasery. This forumz haz built-in fail-safes for just this sort of thing, you know...

let me explain once how makes this crap
drums and things that sound liek drums ar built in several pattern sequencers and the er, sequences are sequenced.
I record the bass live (via midi) (for a few bars) and copy/pasta to see fit within a piano roll sequencer so I can further edit edit edit t tt t as I build the track
I also plays the melody/riffs live via midi into a piano roll sequencer and (if you can't tell) rarely edit anything as it feels moar fun to leave things as is (and almost guarantees it won't find it's way into someone's commercial or porn show, as much of my earlier on-line work was wont to do)

For the amused-momento [LULZ, MOTHERFUCKERS] I quantized the recordings in this tune to sound maschin-ish

Much of my compositions are built in this manner... recording sections and slopping the mess together with a dirty spatula

I jammed with tape from 1964-ish through 2003, when I finally retired the MM1200 2" and the sony (MCI) 1/4" machines with timecode.
Along the way I played with all manners of tape machines and can honestly say...

I don't miss them at all

that track was srs responce to some ponces who maintained they couldn't use freeware to make 'quality' (snicker) music.
After I reviewed a couple of their tracks I made that tune- using nothing but freeware natch'

CR, where to you get your recording tape? I've been getting the RMG stuff from Full Compass.
OMG...I saw how much a roll of 2" tape costs.

I still have some Quantegy tapes that I bought back in 2001 that I'm using.
Once those are gone, I'll probably buy ATR tape from our local store, thetapewarehouse.com. It's just down the road from my work. But yeah, 150 dollars for a 1" tape and I need two of those for an album. It's still much cheaper than buying and maintaining a DAW, you probably have to pay that for upgrading to a new version every couple years anyway. More if you use ProTools...

I wish I had the dbx unit though...

Do you still use that Tascam at all?

Oh yes, both of them. The 8 track I found on ebay a couple of years ago but I barely used it because I was so afraid of breaking it.lol But recently I thought, take the cover off and start using it, so I'm still in the process of wiring up my studio. I've only got one aux send, so I'll probably use the Lexicon MX200, but I also love the warm tone from my Alesis Midiverb ll.
The Lexicon has more effects, dual ones in fact, so I'll have to wait and see.

I love the sound of it. I almost replaced it with a Roland VS2000cd that I bought off ebay, but I recorded the Andromeda onto it and then the Roland and to my ears anyway the Tascam captured the Andromeda much better, so I packed it up the same day and shipped it back.

I am eagerly awaiting hearing some cuts from your album.
You're mixing to an Alesis HD aren't you?

I wish we could keep everything entirely analog and cut our own vinyl.

Then you're my partner in REAL Jam with tapes :thu:

Yeah I'm mixing to the Alesis Masterlink, but I'm bypassing its converters and using a Lucid AD24/96 instead. That made a big difference in the sound, I think the Alesis converters were muddying up the sound.

Right now I'm ready to continue mixing but BOTH my Digitech TSR-24s are in the shop. I have Roland and Yamaha reverbs but for drums, nothing comes close to the TSR-24 Gigaverb on a plate type setting, for drums. At least considering what I got, it's what works, so I'm having to wait. The guy's gonna have a look at my D-550 while he's at it so I might finally have that in my rig as well :thu:

If you're not afraid of tape costs, you can sometimes find good deals on 1" 16-track units. Like this one that's currently in our Atlanta Craigslist: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/msg/1768664329.html
It even comes with the dbx unit...

Oh Lawd, that's awesome, but I have to say if I bought that I wouldn't even be sleeping on the sofa but in the garage........and the garage leaks.
I've thought about getting a 2 track for mixing but I just don't have room in my studio and my electrical outlets are overtaxed as it is.

I love my D50 and I know you're going to enjoy it once it's fixed. People say it has an outdated sound.....no, it only sounds dated if you use dated sounds. :thu:

btw, did you guys ever go out to eat withthe profits from the cymbal sale?

Well we did go out to a nice italian restaurant but it was a regular go out thing. Still got that 100 bucks set apart :thu: I want to go out tonight but the wife isn't really feeling up to it - 5 months preggers and all...

I love the D-550 as well, I had a bunch of custom sounds (not mine) in it and it really rocked. Couldn't really use it much in my recordings as one of the outputs was busted and for some reason, recording it in mono without effects, didn't sound right. With Roland, the effects really go hand in hand with the synth...

Oh I found another cymbal in the cymbal bag! Joy joy! But that one's probably only worth 50 bucks or so.
