I think europeans should celebrate Thanksgiving too because it symbolizes the beginning of the exodus of all your misfits who later became known as Americans.

Aye, we can celebrate being thankful of getting rid of all of you buggers. and that crossdressing governor of NY state I forget the name of.

They used to and may well still have geese in the grounds of York University. My friend who went there said the freshers would get drunk and annoy them until they discovered the hard way that a goose's beak on a good bitey lunge is just the right height to connect where a man would not want it to.

 Ya know... I don't remember covering this anywhere in history class...

Edward Hyde, styled Viscount Cornbury between 1674 and 1709, was Governor of New York and New Jersey between 1701 and 1708, and is perhaps best known for the claims of his cross-dressing while in office.

This year it seem lots of Black Friday sales are beginning on Fat Thursday evening.

Sounds pretty scary: overstuffed zombie tryptophantoms with lardbutt battering rams.

"BARGAAAIIINNNSSS!"

What's up with these Black FridayThursday sales anyways?

Haven't people heard of this thing called Internet? It's great, you can pick stuff there and some nice chap in a brown uniform drops things off a few days later, and you avoid the !!!SALERIOTS!!!. :idk:

It's not Fat Thursday. It's Thanksgiving day :angrybaby:

A lot of stores will now open on thursday so that people can't celebrate thanksgiving day with their families. That gives me a sad.

Not to mention most places jack up the prices and pull all kinds of bait and switches. What makes me said is my parents generation would have said that family is more important and refused to go shopping. Everybody now can't do what the tv tells them to fast enough. That truly is sad. and I agree better deals are to be found daily online.

Yes, indeed.

Though some people might actually relish going into work if their family is one of those types that gets into Major Anger Mode over politics/religion/sports/familydrama, I guess. :idk:

hahha also true.

But that's usually the reason why most people prefer to go watch a movie (or three) after Thanksgiving dinner, rather than go to work :)

I'd forgotten it's Thanksgiving coming up... we don;t have it here.

So do you guys eat Turkey at Christmas as well? Or something else instead?

aren't you going to say that your thanksgiving is that you were happy we left?

I think each region has their own thing around the traditional turkey. ham is also common at thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

here as soon as halloween is over the idiot box (tv) and all the malls switch over to xmas instantly without missing a beat. obvs there are strong business incentives for this

i think halloween generates something like 3 or 4 billion dollars every year in north america. xmas being the biggest cash cow here businesses want to tune our brains to it as soon as possible after halloween.

it tends to have the opposite effect on me, i find the whole thing to be contrived and irritating. generally i avoid shopping as much as possible nov and dec except for the small amount of gifts i get for my peeps

i like to wait until jan or feb when all the winter collections go on sale aka black or non-bright summer attire. once spring hits the window of opportunity is closed and i'm stuck with like neon board shorts everywhere lol

Which is in itself amusing, given two of the three are based on a Jew.

Maybe there's a reason behind it - as Jesus was bringing the message that God was not just for the Jews but for everyone, someone decided "you know what? Screw it, I'm eating PIG on your birthday, dude!".
