Yeah, there's quite a bit of the fun schlocky psychobilly, surf, or garage kitsch bands that likes horror movies (usually B to Z grade :grin: ). A fair bunch of those bands have combo keyboards or other keyboards as part of the lineup.

Most are quite niche and probably unknown (eg "The Ghastly Ones who?"). But even in something louder like punk rock, it seems like the more the band is into horror (especially kitsch style), the more likely the band has a keyboardist. (So it goes that one of the few major punk bands to have keyboard players are The Dickies and The Damned.)

Haigh guize! :wave:

I have been SO SLAMMED lately. There's a serious deadline looming at Teh Office, and Teh Wife's new business is opening at the end of next week (Nov. 10). I am, of course, the IT guy and generally supportive dude, so I haven't had any time to synth. Even after I got it all hooked up and even fixed my KX88 (the "A" key switch bus on the keybed had a cold solder joint, and needed a fresh battery).

LE SIGH. But! Soon. Soon there will be synthing.

soon.

dammit, I mean it. :mad:

Heh. At this moment I'm approximately 10,000 "as the crow flies" miles from my synth collection. In order to Synth, I would have to have extremely long arms, or accept the meager shops around here with "digital arrangers" (bleh), or hop on a plane to maybe Kuala Lumpur or Singapore which also have not much but at least there's, um, one Moog dealer there or something. Bleh.

Well, at least there's the option of making minimal acid techno in the browser. {bleep-bleep-bleep}

I might be. :lol:

When I had it open and I was sounding-out the key switch matrix, I realized that this would be a cool MIDI project if I had time. Rip out the ancient brains and drop some new hotness in there that can handle fancy stuff like velocity curves, multiple splits, maybe make some sane use of the 32 patch buttons... Ugh. So many things I want to do.

Also: More than half the weight of that beast is the keybed itself, which has actual lead weights pinned to each key. The switches themselves are leaf switches that are mounted to a very fragile plastic frame. It's way too easy to accidentally snag and bend a leaf out of shape. Don't ask how I know this. :cry: Managed to fix it, though.

My brother stored his on it's end for a week and the keybed shifted down a bit towards high C. After hat the keys wouldn't press down. It took a while to realize it had to sit on the other end for a while.
