I thought you said that you were going to paint your studio all black? You didn't do it?

Island CD: I'ma guess... Skinny Puppy? No wait: Ghost? Ummm. I dunno.

I was going to paint it black, then I came to my senses. I want something a little more classy and less death and destruction.

Both of those guesses are good ones, and shows you know my brain better than I thought you would!

My "studio" remains a wreck. I haven't seriously tried to get it together yet, although it's been what, 7 months now? Sheesh.

1. I need to replace ALL of the outlets. They're old and worn out and don't hold a power cord worth a damn. I'm hoping this will also minimize poor grounding problems that always lead to buzzing.
2. I need to (finally) install the acoustic panels that I have lying around. I'm thinking of just spreading them over the wall behind my monitors; the wall opposite is 25 feet away, so I think any weirdness will be of the slappy variety if I don't put them there.
3. Island CD: I don't have one. They're all good CDs, Bront.

A helpful trick:

Sit at your chair where you would do your mixing or most of your listening. Next, get wife to get one of her makeup mirrors and stand behind your desk and hold the mirror against the wall. Have her move it around until you see the back of the monitor in the mirror. This will be a reflection point. Place acoustic panels there. :) (this trick works for any wall, whether it be frontal or rear, and ceiling too.)

Excellent suggestion, SI! I'll remember that when I actually get the gumption to put them up!

Skinny Puppy - The Singles Collect?

Also, color: if the shape of the room is weird or it's small, I'd just go with an off white. Honestly. It will help you not feel claustrophobic in there.

I could live with the Fusion as my only synth. Wait - it is my only synth

(Except for soft synths which I haven't used at all even though I thought I would)

You guize know me well! I do love the Skinny Puppy. But, alas, they would not be my deserted isle.

My Official Deserted Island Cd of Choice™ is...

<insert drumroll>

Antichrist Superstar.

Now that it's been built up so much, that was a total letdown, huh?
But yea. I just love that album. Front to back and upside down. If I were stranded on a deserted island and could never again hear Angel With the Scabbed Wings, Tourniquet, Kinderfeld, or any of the rest again, I would be such the Sad Panda.

I don't think I have a desert island CD... maybe used to have some 20-30 I thought I couldn't live without, but now I think if I didn't have an acoustic guitar (with a lifetime supply of strings) or a synth (powered by salt water or something) I would have the sad pandaness.

Though if I had a double CD with "the best of" Beethoven (and the means to play it) I would probably be quite happy for a good while.

CR, I'm about to blow your mind.

I predict that your deserted island CD would be BadMotofinger.

AMIRITE?

Did I win???

Hmmm I liked that record but no.

Like I said, now it would be a selection Beethoven's music.

But previous candidates would have included (in no particular order):
Iron Maiden-Powerslave or 7th Son of a 7th Son
Peter Gabriel-So
Queensrÿche-Operation Mindcrime
Lorena McKennitt-The Visit/The Mask and the Mirror (have to combine these two!)
Yes-90125/Big Generator/Talk (also need to be combined)
Rush-Moving Pictures
Black Sabbath-Heaven and Hell
Judas Priest-Painkiller
Dream Theater-Images and Words
Kansas-Leftoverture

But my tastes have changed and I hardly ever listen to most of these anymore, Lorena McKennitt being the exception.

I am shocked! Shocked and appalled! Just devastated!

Heh. Nah, I get the classical deal. I'm kinda like you though - I would DEFINITELY have to have a synth or guitar (preferably both) if I were stranded for life.

Oh!

I have a new muse. Check out Molly Burch. OMG. Her voice. It's like butter. BUTTER. Plus, I like the raw production. You must hear her.

I’m kinda not surprised. Her stuff seems kinda niche. And that’s ok. I like it though.

I think wall colors in a creative space have to go with your personality. I prefer muted, neutral or darker colors at home. Not spooky, but relaxed, nothing that taxes my senses. Between all my scented candles and ambient music I have going most of the time, most people seem to think I live in a luxury spa or something. But that's just me and how I balance my input from the world.

I kind of think that is more important in a personal or creative space. You should feel good about being there and that extends to paint choices, to cabling, neatness and other things. It's like when I airsoft.. if I don't have equipment that makes me feel good, I'm not going to want to get out and play.

I don't mean that in a way that justifys uncessary luxury and expense, but more ergonomics, both practical and holistic.
