Well I'm back..

I hate to say, I don't think I had a moment of free time over my break. I worked half days Dec 18th - 22nd, crashed into christmas and new years.. the down time I got was spent laid out on the couch trying to recoup. ugh..

However, we spent plenty of time with family and went to orlando, out to new Smyrna by daytona to see some family.. busy busy.

I hope your holidays and new years was good !!

i guess that is just the reality of holidaze and first world problems lol

in other news i am eating a salad and someone has brought loud roasted chicken smells to the lunch room and now my salad tastes like roasted chickens!

Speaking of bugs. It seems like all 3 of my sons were bitten by brown spiders while down in Brazil. The older has already recovered, the two younger ones still have wounds that are being treated (theirs could be something else though - it's hard to tell but it doesn't have the same pattern). The older one was most likely a brown spider because the center was starting to become black along with the skin around it, in shapes that are usually spider bites and are a sign of impending necrosis  Thankfully, the medication works very well.

Yeesh! That's scary! I'm glad to hear the meds work quickly.

The more you know: Brown spider make lousy pets. 0/10, do not want.

Yes. Nuke them from orbit.

These spiders? Yikes!

Luckily, most Florida spiders aren't terribly venomous (the widow spiders are the big huge exception, but they aren't as bad as those guys above). The weird looking spiny orb weaver above is not an issue.

The most "impressive" spider around here is the golden silk orb weaver -- more for the fact that it builds these massive webs (can be 2-3 feet wide). Their bite is reportedly annoying but not fatal. More of an issue is that if you go out walking in the woods on a trail with little traffic, it's good to bring a hiking stick and sharp eyes, as running into those webs is not going to be fun...

When I went to the rest room in the middle of the night, I found one crawling towards our room (and killed it). It looked like this:

Now looking at pictures of bites, all my kids were bitten by them, each at least twice. The wound would have kept growing unless medicated - possibly until death, since the wound seems to never stop growing if left alone.

In some places it says these spiders aren't aggressive, but they must have all bitten my kids while they were asleep, on a mattress on the floor. We were on a bed so it's probably not quite as easy for them to climb that...

WTF is that EVEN?

We have black and brown widow spiders ALL AROUND my house and neighborhood. I KILL THEM FAST.

Their webs are STRONG, too. If you run through one, you DEFINITELY know it and I feel like Neo when I do because I download and learn ALL the kung fu's. All of them. I also become nekkid with a quickness, and I don't care who's around.

We have golden orb weavers here, too. I can vouch for the strength and size of their webs, I've walked through plenty. We also have the lovely Black Widow. No, not the yummy ScarJo flavor, but the AUGH GET AWAY flavor.
