I have an Ibanez SR506, mahogany body with Bartolini pickups and preamp (the Asian Bartolini, not the American - but to me it sounds great).

Yup. 6 glorious strings.

I'll keep my fretless 5 though. Just in case I decide to use it on a recording...

The pickups - active or passive?

Active. Bartolinis are active and have the typical "Bartolini sound", which a lot of pros like. Especially for hard rock/metal, but also for jazz and pop.

I don't pretend to know a lot about pickups, because I don't. Just curious. I can never tell the difference in sound between active and passive, and it's annoying to have to change batteries all the time.

Active have more volume and less hiss.

They say Passive has more "grit" to the sound but it just depends on what you want. The bass seems a bit more defined on some active pickups, but that too is debatable. I don't change batteries very often by the way... they seem to last forever.

- 1080p ? yes

- 1080p always 60hz ? no, refresh rates vary. my tv can do 120hz but i only use 60. i think a basic tv can do 60hz (or even 120) but its worth checking, also checking the computer to see if it can output that rate

- response time ? to put it in perspective, if you're doing 60 hz/fps, 1/60th of a second (one frame) is 16 ms. for gaming 16 ms might be high/noticeable but imho 5-10 ms is likely fine for twitch reflexes

- brightness/contrast ? yes and no. for luminance i'd go with a decent spec but not too bright and good black levels are just as important. for contrast my tv setting is near 100% and sharpness near 10%, i find this is best for viewing text.

i calibrated the colours using the apple utility and find too much brightness can mess up colour reproduction. for high end grading my tv and retina macbook pro both lack colour accuracy, no big deal for a daw

when it comes to ghosting and image blur those issues are usually addressed in online reviews. i didn't do any research for my toshiba i just bought the tv that seemed like the correct size/price for my needs. still, if you have concerns i'd check the reviews

I'm not really going with that, but I did stick it up there just to see how it worked.

It performed just fine, no flicker or jittery mouse trails. Mighty pixely, though. I'm afraid even a 32" might be too pixelated, but I'm gonna try one soon.

I gotta finish the walls in there too, someday...

I like that setting. I bet it makes for great playing times... especially with the big racks full of gear. I like big racks and I cannot lie.

I decided against trying the 30" TV. I'm pretty sure it would have been too pixely for me. I believe you were correct back when you said 4K would be the way to go for jumbo-tron DAW vewing.

So I opted for Teh Poor Man's 4K:

Twin twenty fours INDA HAUS! Good deal too, $99 ea for pretty good ASUS mons, about the best specs available in TN style. They're just a tad too tall for the opening in my desk though, and they don't slide up & down, so I dislike the stands.

Which brings me to the surprise lesson I learned: all monitors are not equipped with VESA mounting holes. I was going to put them on Super-Bendo-Extendo-Matic arms, but I'll have to somehow modify them first.

I do not play it lately, but I did when it was necessary for to get paid.

I don't think I used the SX for the intro part though, since it only has the fast bubbly chorus bucket brigade setting, not the slow choral one. I probably would have used the Poly-61 for the intro sound because two oscillators/voice. I likely used the Kawai for the high string part in the middle eight, though. Juno or OMNI II would have also worked for that sound.
