Yep. time to retire the 8-year-old HP Core2 machine for something that I can actually boot-up and use in under 30 minutes. Does anyone wanna see baby pics when it comes in? I gotta pop it open to put a Firewire card in it anyway.

But not until Thursday. Stupid Amazon and their not-quite-instant-gratification shipping.

We looked at Lenovo but went with Asus. The recent shens Lenovo had about releasing computers with malware aren't helping its reputation.

I would install an anti-malware program and an anti-virus as soon as I could...

Other than that it should be fine...

I don't think I'd ever buy a desktop/tower again. Laptops are as powerful as I need, and far more practical.

My parents just gave me their old 26" iMac, which is not very old at all. Within an hour I managed to pretty much wreck it. I have no idea what I'm doing - been a PC guy all my life.

I have a (rather) nice Windows laptop which would probably work great, EXCEPT that it doesn't have a Firewire port, and no way to add one. I'm reluctant to swap out the (expensive) RME Fireface for a USB one, so instead I opted for a new desktop.

So many gadgets. lol

I'm spoilt with having a notebook and a desktop. I'd hate to be forced to part with either.

I helped my daughter select this ASUS two-in-one thingy.

10.1" touche screen, Quad-core, 32GB RAM, full Windows, detachable keys, every port & interface you'd expect on a full lappy, for $250. I bunged in 64GB SD & My Little Pony sleeve, & it's teh shniz.

I want one...

I no longer have a desktop, but I kinda wish I did, just so my wife wouldn't get my Mac all the time, even though she has her own computer. :)

New PC arrived yesterday, but I wound up being late at the office and didn't get much time to mess with it. From the outside, it looks like your typical desktop tower. Inside, though:

i7 4790
12GB RAM
1TB spinning rust
128GB SSD (boot and OS)
Nvidia 750 TI

I popped it open briefly to verify PCI slot availability, it's got 3 open PCIe slots, so I quickly ordered a Firewire card to drop in there. Should get that tomorrow, and then I can install teh Sonars.

For the little I used it, it's very snappy.
