Teh Guilty Pleasures Thread

Postby selfinflikted » Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:44 pm

In this thread, we will discuss the music we listen to that if anyone else actually knew we listened to it, we would probably die of embarrassment. As a gesture of good faith, I will go first.

Kittie

Yes, I listen to Kittie. In case you all are not familiar, it is (or was?) an all-female nu-metal band in the late 90's and early 2000s. I have no idea if they're still around, but I really like the mix of heavy beats with distorted guitars and a silky singing voice (although she does growl and scream a lot, too). Odd that I don't particularly care for Evanescence, as it's pretty much the same thing, minus the ubiquitous nu-metal scream-o. But, here I sit at work listening to music I haven't listened to in quite a while, and Kittie came on. I found myself headbanging and singing along. It gave me the inspiration for this thread. This could be fun.

Or not?

I have more, but will save some for later.

Oh. I actually love ABBA, too. But, I'm gay.

WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?!

I can't comment on Clav's guilty pleasure, because I haven't heard that soundtrack.

I don't get it. Your Googa playlist should have been a screen shot or something. Some of us can't see it

I'd probably just make fun of you anyway so you don't have to show it

If ABBA had a reunion featuring Kylie Minogue, all the gheys heads would asplode.

Personally, I wouldn't consider Kittie *that* guilty of a pleasure. They're not really paint-by-numbers "nu-metal", they have a little of that L7 style thing going on.

I don't care for Evanescence much, but my wife and I did go see Lacuna Coil when they came around here (and they were good). We would've gone seen Nightwish as well if they had their original singer still when they came around here, but they didn't.

Abba is really well crafted pop, not sure what's wrong with it either.

Many people like to put all music into sub-categories just so they can be the whipping post of an asshole who thinks that their nothing is superior or something. I've been to shows with such whipping-post genres as "emo", "hipster music", and "dubstep" to name a few. No big deal. I have never played the dress up fashion game so maybe that's a part of it.

Not to say there is no cheesy music out there. The one style of music I kind of like in spite of its ultra-cheese factor is Eurobeat. (This is probably due to too much exposure to Japanese anime.)

Another guilty pleasure of mine is Milk Inc. I just love Linda Mertens' voice.

How can you not like a pop trance group that loves the 80s? :)

And speaking of Abba. Is anyone not amazed at what they did in the 70s without autotune?? Those are some of the sickest harmonies ever.

Yes, they are.

You don't have to be talented to "drop and album" today, though this is not surprising news. It's just irritating. You hear what you think is an awesome album, then go see the band live, and they suck. Bleh.

I got to a point where I said the only way I'd go clubbing or participate in the scene again was if I was on a stage. Hasn't happened yet, but so far I'm sticking to my word. :thu: Being married is a lot less glamorous, but there's also a lot less bull shit to put up with.

Purity, I don't think I've said it in so many words, but I (and I'm sure I speak for all of us here) am proud of you for sticking with it and pulling your shit together

I followed a link of a link a friend posted yesterday and I found myself in a tinychat chat and it was with one of those home cam girl models and she was giving a speech on how she just does it to do it and it has nothing with anything and it's not wrong then she launches into a segue about self harm and how her dad is ok with her doing porn.. Good times..

Coal Chamber. Another guilty pleasure I'm listening to right now. Though, I'm not particularly embarrassed of listening to them.
