Of the foregoing I can neither confute nor condone. His reminiscences of the following incident, however, being corroborated by other sources, I consider to be mostly factual.

According to Wyfe's grandfather: in 1880 or thereabouts, his grandfather, after failing to find gainful employment in this local by the ripe old age of nineteen, was offered a job as a cowboy by a relative in Texas. This relative had secured contracts with the US Dept of Interior to supply victuals to several Indian reservations in the southwest. The contractors would buy cheap Mexican cattle and drive herds of them to the various reservations. Just like on tv. G-g-grandfather accepted the job, but being loath to deplete his limited capital of $12 or so on traveling expenses, HE WALKED FROM INDIANA TO TEXAS.

I started to say "Now, now, nothing of that sort went on. I'm sure they spent all their time riding straight in their saddles".

But, who knows? I wasn't there. So you have my permission to imagine whatever sort of debauchery or barebackery you would have.

I could relate other experiences of his trip, if anyone's interested...

Sorry... just trying to make up for my recent lack of lulz.

No need for apoplegy. Forgive me if I sounded censorial, that was not my intention. I thought your Rawhide parody was very funny. Is that some original Purity Prose™?

As a kid, I didn't like westerns, but the lyrics must now be quoted for iconic epictitude.

I recommend singing in your head with the traditional lusty cowboy baritone, complete with cracking whips, lowing cattle and of course lotsa galloping hoofbeats. Embellish to taste with muffled saddle-farts, because beans.

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Though the streams are swollen
Keep them dogies rollin'
Rawhide!
Rain and wind and weather
Hell-bent for leather
Wishin' my gal was by my side.
All the things I'm missin',
Good vittles, love, and kissin',
Are waiting at the end of my ride

CHORUS
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Rawhide
Count 'em out, ride 'em in,
Ride 'em in, count 'em out,
Count 'em out, ride 'em in
Rawhide!

Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though they're disapprovin'
Keep them dogies movin'
Rawhide!
Don't try to understand 'em
Just rope, throw, and brand 'em
Soon we'll be living high and wide.
My hearts calculatin'
My true love will be waitin',
Be waitin' at the end of my ride.

Rawhide!
Rawhide!

I'll do that, but it might be a while. Ten years or so ago, my wife 'interviewed' her g-dad on vid. She has hours of him rambling about ye olde days. We pieced together a small portion of it to run on a loop at his funeral. After she goes through all of it, I'll have better anecdotes to poast.
