Sounds about par for the Customer Support course.

Houston, we have liftoff!!! It workeeeeeee !!!!
Now if I can only get it to let me format the HD. Anytime I plug it back in, no matter which SATA slot I use, the PC boots off the HD. Any suggestions on a way to get around this? I seem to remember a DOD command would do it. But again, I can't get a drive letter if it keeps booting to it every time I plug it in. And if I don't have a drive letter, i dont think \FORMAT x would work too well.

Remove the drive from the boot sequence.

If won't let me remove it if it boots off of it. Say it's active and cannot format it. There HAS to be a way to do this.

Just curious...is SATA hot-swappable. What if I plugged the drive in AFTER it was booted up off the SSD?

Problem solved. I did hook the original HD up while it was booted to the SSD. Then went into disk management, deleted each volume, and did a format. It is now showing up in My Computer AND it is wiped clean. Finally put the case back together. It's on to all the Windows Updates, installing anti-virus software, then I'll be installing Cubase 7 on it. Already hooked up the new Steinberg UR22 audio interface and my studio monitors are now pumping out Windows alert sounds, so it is working. Hopefully Cubase will be a walk in the park.

Thanks again to all of you who threw out ideas, suggestions, and prayers. The rest of you quit snickering ...

Yay!

But you know, you'd have finished two days ago if you hadn't fired that big Fatboy™ and had a coffee instead.

A man's gotta have whatever gets him through the stress of acting like a PC technician. Turns out, while I was working on that PC, I was also remotely trying to fix my mother's laptop via logmein. Also, I was having some issues with my school laptop. It got infected with something nasty and I've been trying to eradicate that. AND I've been running scans on all my sh*t just to keep things updated and backed up. So there are 3 PC's going around me and one remote and I needed sumpin. Just kidding about the Fatboy! Just laughed my ass off when somebody posted it on FB and I had to have it!

Just for the record, it is. But when I was looking around in my ASUS bios, I saw that you could set that feature on or off for each individual SATA socket. And mine were all set to no hot-swap.

Btw, congrats for getting an ASUS machine! I'm impressed with mine.

And also, good choice on the Samsung SSD. You have shown exceptional judgement.

Btbtw, I'd uninstall that Samsung Magician app; it's not needed.

Okay Plink, thanks! I uninstalled Magician. Now that it's all up and running, I don't see any need to keep it either.
BTW - I promised you guys a boot video, so let me see if I have any luck uplaoding the video.

You guys let me know if it doesn't workie ... thanks and enjoy.
I installed Cubase 7 on the SSD as well. You ought to see how fast it goes from
desktop to open file.

I'm having a bitch of a time ordering the Absolute VST Collection from the Steinberg online store. I want the full version of HALion Sonic plus PadShop Pro and the other goodies that come with it. I'm planning on using HALion Sonic to "replace" my Motif ES sound set so I can put that puppy up for sale. Everytime I add it to my basket (it puts the lotion...) when I hit continue, it empties the basket and says I have nothing in it. Why is it that as I type this I am experiencing daja vu all over again. Seems like a very similar thread was written by me a while back.

Anyways, I'm having a ball checking out and playing with the new system. I have my guitar co-conspirator coming down out of the mountains next week for a few days to record some epic guitar parts. Can't wait for that. In the meantime, I'm pushing the envelope with this setup to see what she can do and what she's got. Having a blast!

EP & Plink - Will keep you in spirit as I playz, maybe even throw something up on the Jam Tracks thread for you to play alongz wit when you can. Be safe in your travels and other busy ventures.
