I once boarded a relative's hamster in my basement. She was a friendly, nice little rodent who lived in one of those cool cages with the tubes & towers & stuff. After a few months, my daughter left her cage open & the critter escaped. By turning off the lights & being vewwy vewwy quiet, I was able to locate & capture her by listening for her rustlings. A few months after that my son did the same thing.

That was over ten years ago, and that time, I never found it.

And now, you never will.

I heard, however, that Clav did find it.

It must have gotten clean away, because I never even smelled it.*

I was going to ask about the smell*. Good to know it apparently didn't rot in your walls*.

Ever have a rodent die somewhere unreachable in your house? Oh my god, the smell.

I have, as we speak, a dead rodent in our backyard shed. Apparently, the bait that the pest control guy uses works beautifully, but I can't bring myself to go near it enough to dispose of the body(bodies).

Probably, I'm going to have to nuke the entire site from orbit. You know, just to be sure.

Yes it's horrible. It goes away, but for the rest of your days in that house, you know there's a creepy little mouskelleton RIGHT THERE IN THE INSIDE OF THE WALL!!!

btw, I have now successfully trapped and harmlessly relocated two full grown skunks. Without any spraying or stinking up my truck or any other skunkish unpleasantness. Whew.
