At first, I was like, MAD when I heard reviewers praising teh OZ writers for coming up with such a great character as the China Doll girl. Um, rtfb people? But then I was like, well, really the original books weren't very great literature after all, were they? If not for the 1939 movie the books would probably have disappeared into obscurity by now. Imho they weren't nearly as entertaining as some others, like Kipling, Stevenson, Milne, Barrie & such. So meh to that fight. Those people can just go argue with the crowd that thinks Roddenberry created sci fi.
Really, the only reason I ever read more than one of the OZ books is because Heinlein mentioned them so often in his novels. In another book, he mentions "Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)", by Jerome K. Jerome. That book is a hoot, and I thank RAH for bringing it to my attention.
I Thank Him!
