I really like that recording of Jimmy The Smith more than most others because of the two speed Leslie on it. Most of the cuts he made were with straight speakers or single speed Leslies, which only had off or tremolo (fast). Surprisingly, all Leslie speakers made until 1963 were missing that beautiful slow grind chorale sound.

Imo, because of all the years he played hobbled Leslies, Jimmy didn't develop a reliance on frequently switching speeds which is notably overused by beginner and hackster HamLes players. In that utoob, he flips the switch only once at the very end of the song, almost as an afterthought: "Oh yeah, I can do this now".

That's Jazz Organ 101 modus operandi.

It means the song is over nao.

I remember getting a Jimmy albumn when I was a teen. I was like "yeah, this cat's a good player, but I just don't like the sound of this kind of music".

I'm better now.

But it also means "Here's teh turnaround, evahbody go "WHOOOO YEAHH!"

Which begs the question: Why does evahbody go whooo yeahh at the turnaround in the twelve bar blues?

The image one presumes, not the item appearing in it?

Thank you very much. It's been a shit week so much appreciated.

I had a Japanese meal at lunchtime including Wasabi Ice-cream. Still trying to work out if that was a joke 'cos the guy who brought it to my table couldn;t stop grinning and Japanese people grinning like that are freaky scary, it was very nice anyway, and my sinuses will be clear now until about June.

lol Wasabi Ice-cream is the real deal, you might find it good before a gig because it really will wake you up.
