I think I sold mine for an eighth in the early nineties. Emulators are cool though because you get all the games plus save state. It's funny, unlike most kids I know, my daughter likes the Nes and 2600 better than any other platforms. I think about all the cash my old man shelled out for 2600 carts back in the day, and now I have everything ever released in a folder that's probably less than 1MB.

Yea. I used to run MAME and other emulators. Not so much anymore, though. Agreed on the platforms, too. I mean, games LOOK great nowadays, but they're not nearly as FUN. I wonder if that has to do with the games themselves, or just me getting older and losing interest?

I think one of the things with the older games was how deceptively simple they looked, like somehow, you just couldn;t believe you damn well lost again because there shouldn;t be anything that hard about it.

Elevator Action was bad for that, such a simple idea, so easy to die loads by the third building.

Still have an NES in a box in the garage. Why? I have no idea. I also have a Commodore 64, an Atari ST, and an Intellivision.

Why?

I don't know. Seriously.

There was a PC game like that called Descent, is that what you're thinking of?

It's not a question of why you *still* have it, it's more if why do you have it in the first place?

Because they are classic, and you love, or, at one time, loved them. Need there be more reason? :idk:

WAT

Intellivision was a cool console in its day, man! \..?

Full disclosure: It's not actually MY Intellivision, it's my friend's. It has a broken RF cable that I told him I'd fix long, long ago and I never did. I think he's happy just to be rid of it. So we're back to: why do I have this?

I don't even.

Well, I'll admit that I knew one kid that had one and it was so exotic and strange that I just HAD to play it... And then I played it and realize it was the stupidest interface/games of them all. Would much rather play Santino's Coleco.

IIRC, Trent Reznor did the soundtrack for Descent. It was damn good, too.
