As opposed, of course, to the "futility belt".

Hey Metro, check the Jam with Tapes thread.

It's not quite finished but if you still fancy doing the video thing, the timing isn;t going to change or anything drastic.

So, not that I condone his theories, but for once I think MetroSonus™ is not so off kilter here:

I dunno why I never read any L-Ron. I remember seeing his paperbax on the rack next to the other scifi pulps at the Corner Drug™.

I always saw adds for the dinetecs books on tv. My dad was really into that hocus pocus power sales and management stuff. books with titles like "the answer" "the gift" "the question" "the finger" or something. I had a very poor relationship with my father and one of the negative facets of our relationship was he was always quoting these books and saying things like "you either make a penny or you spend a penny" in lieu of actual parenting.

I always saw those books as just another one of those quick answer but nothing really substantial self help books and I never had any interest in them.

I hate that self help crap. But I meant the scifi he prodigiously pulped out, like Battlefield Earth and such ilk.

---

As a kid, when I griped too much, my dad would say "things are rough all over". But he loved me, in his way. Which wasn't always easy.

No, he wasn't overly tough to me. Like most American dads of the WW2 gen, he was probably not tough enough on his kids. But if pushed too far, they wielded ye old hickory stick. I did not push far very often.

that sounds more like my grandfather. my dad, just never wanted to grow up so he was sort of an absent parent. Gone on business trips, playing golf all the time. In actuality, after some deep thought and some personal revelations, I now know he has a lot of uncontrollable anxiety and playing this life long frat boy thing was just his way of fitting in and having to avoid dealing with things he didn't want to deal with.

cause the only person it's making rich is the person writing it. given our increased elderly population, we get tons of "free" conferences for how to get rich or invest your money here. Im' sure that once you get there, they're just big infomercials about how great these CDs and books are that you have to buy if you want the real info.
