ok so this is my secret project. i may delete as necessary and kill you all if this actually goes into development to keep it a secret, but for now you can chime in if you wish.
my wish here is to take a 16 step button interface and have it tie directly into a sequencer so that each button will represent a step button on the screen. It'll host VSTs and the controller will be mode dependent with feedback in the lighted buttons.
there's some really cool ideas I had for the knob that will make programming steps super easy. Twist it up and down to select the the row of buttons you want to work with. When selected, simply enter the steps on the controller. To change pitch, press and hold the step button you want and then twist the control knob to pitch up/down.
to use the step buttons as a keyboard, press the knob (it's a push button too). the controller turns into a keyboard and turning the knob will change the octaves. press the knob again to return to step mode.
I think at the most, 8 instruments x 8 measures is good for groove box work. I have ideas for a live mode and a drag and drop master sequencer too.
Anyway, so whatcall think?
