I remember that demo. As soon as I heard it I went to Reliable Music in Charlotte and tried that system out. They had it all set up and someone that knew it well enough to show me what it would do. They also had this monster called the Kurzweil K250 if I remember correctly. I liked that too.

Oberheims I've had:
(*) Matrix 1000
(*) SEM (revival)

So, nothing very 1983ish. I guess the love isn't completely there because none of them are in my studio anymore. :idk:

I have lots of love for Oberheim, but it's been pure platonic

My affections have also been unrequited. The early stuff is great, but I'd be very happy with an OB-Xa.

I have no hands on experience with any OB's. But I do know they sound nice in some of my favorite songs/records.

They are big and weird and they sound superb. They are huge, but have as much space under the hood as a Cadillac's trunk. You can no shit fit an ob6 inside of an Xa and still use it.

But some shit's going down at work right now and I've dried out a bit just to be on the safe side.

Yeah... SEM MK2 or whatever.
I do like the early 80s Oberheim poly sound though. (Never played one, but the sound is great in records.)
I don't have much room for huge synths in the studio unfortunately. The Alesis Andromeda and P6 cover my "poly needs" for now.
If I had unlimited room and unlimited funds, sure, but the OB-X in particular seems to have prices in the stratosphere right now.
I could roughly trade the Andromeda in for an OB-8 or -XA, but... nah.

Also I'm totally shocked that an A6 trades for $4-5k

Never played one either, not particularly gassing for one... poly needs also covered at the moment.

I'm using Reverb's handy price comparison chart for this. Recently, a few A6s have fetched $3500 (though typically its more like $2800-$3000). The OB-8 and OB-XA actually runs roughly $3000-$4000 in the trades.

The OB-X hasn't sold a lot at Reverb. One sold for $2750; OTOH one sold for $9000.

By way of comparison, there is a new B-Stock of the DSI OB-6 desktop on Reverb for $1839. :idk:
