OK so I was kidding about the DX7 USB thing. I totally had EP fooled. fOOled. At least that's what I'm assuming form his stunned silence on the subject.

I wuz fooled. But mostly because I didn't care enough to go sleuthing about for veracity. To me, DX7 = meh. I know, they were the huge iconic game changer, but I just never wanted one.

:idk:

I'm likeing the Roland controller btw. I think it's pretty good kit for it's price point.

OMFGWTF AUTOMAP LIVES !!1

so to my shock upon installing the logic 10.2 update automap worked with the brand new alchemy plug-in. this nearly caused mass hysteria on my part and i'm still amazed my ReMOTE 37SL is somehow supported !111one

today after much hours of screwing around (long story short)

teh solution on mac:

1) download automap 4.9 (out of 'beta' and new as of june 2015)
2) uninstall previous automap (i decided to check the box: delete all user preferences)
3) install automap 4.9
4) follow prompts with logic x
5) open & close logic x (this will scan some wrapped plug-ins)
6) open automap server, go software setup and click Audio Units
7) unselect the plug-ins you don't want
8) select the plug-ins you do want
(automap will wrap some plug-ins. you have to uncheck boxes you don't want and check ones you do want. click, wait, then it will be selected or unselected)
9) launch logic x again
(it will scan your newly wrapped plug-ins)
10) success !!

automap works best with few controls. something like an la2a compressor is easy to map vs a full blown channel strip. at least the plug-ins i want are now finally wrapped. i can modify the knobage layout on the plugs i use the most and/or customize on the fly

anyways happy friday !!

last night i figured out how to run kore 2 (software with kore 1 hardware) on OS X 10.10 yosemite

from ni tech support:
In order to solve this issue please follow this steps:

- Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Audio ▸ Plug-Ins ▸ HAL

- drag the „Avid CoreAudio.plugin“ outside of this folder

- type in admin password when prompted

- after successfully deleting the file this way please restart the computer

Please let me know if the problem persists.

(this was in a maschine thread but both were affected: http://bit.ly/1IOMKAQ)

so today:

(ps. the avid core audio plug-in is for running their hardware like an mbox 3, etc. there was a conflict with it so if your rig relied on that driver its not really a solution)

LIKE

Still rockin' the SL, eh? I just can't seem to decide if I should give up on mine or what. The buttons are squishy, the display is really hard to read, and Automap sucks. On the plus side: dat keyboard.

any plug-in with lots of kcnobz is a write-off. so I just use the mouse

luckily many of my fav plug-ins like uad have relatively simple controls and map well

the stock logic plug-ins are hit & miss, but alchemy is mapped well

I think between kore and the remote I can get it done even if I need to make new templates, etc along the way

I think the real key to automap is picking & choosing which plug-ins to wrap. in the future I'm gna go deeper into logics plug-in organization and sort them by automap, compressors, eqs, etc. then I can also load the presets into logics library

(this is where automap has a leg up on kore, maschine, s-kontrol and akai advance. I can open just the wrapped plug-in I want and not a whole daw within a daw every time. obvs ymmv  )

i've been pretty excited to see how nektar integrated works with logic

its certainly deep but at a certain point its much easier to use the mouse when you're menu diving 12 pages deep and hitting obscure shift keys

if sumone was dedicated and really wanted to dig deep this controller it would likely pay off with logic stuff

I am probably one of the few people that don't mind, I started out a long time ago on trakkers that were keyboard only. That's mostly my I prefer simple controllers. I've got my korg nanocontroller thingy for mixer control, I've got an LPD8 if I need more knobs. Works for me. I've also got EPs old 32 key PCR. Really love that, one of the last with non endless encoders. Sorry, I just don't like 7.5 revolutions to do a simple filter sweep. It's also got a shit load of midi built into it. Just one of those keeper things.

Which reminds me, isn't it about time you bought something else off of me now, Metro? Seems like we've got a schedule to maintain, ya know.

this looks interesting:

$399 retail

it seems to run the same VIP software as the akai advance line. i tend to forget akai and alesis are owned by InMusic (and denon, numark, etc).

i just googled it and i guess when InMusic bought m-audio from avid the acquired a.i.r (advanced instrument research, formerly wizoo lol) which makes structure, boom, vacuum, velvet, transfuser, etc.

my original worry with the akai wasn't the build quality or anything it was the software. VIP is a huge effort to basically build a DAW/platform to host plug-ins. the reason NI had to scrap kore was because doing such an ambitious project with all the updates, etc required too much support and didn't sell enough to justify it.

akai just release a massive update to its mpc line with os 1.9, which has many improvements users have been asking for. so there's hope that VIP will continue to be developed across InMusic by consolidating their properties with teams like a.i.r, akai, alesis, etc.

See, I'm gonna have to go with 49 full-size keys. That's just The Correct Way, as everyone knows.

It's just common sense, you see.

The Correct Way? That implies tradition. Tradition says: organ manuals are almost always 61 full size keys. There. :tounge:

(That said, I'll take something like a Prophet 6 with only 4 octaves because I haz 5 octave keyboard already + MIDI In.)
