Roland's making 500 series 'fully analog' modules too (for euro crack)

http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2015/ ... k-preview/

since I'm actually in England right now on vaca I'm tempted to jump on a chunnel/bus/train and buy all the Roland but alas I will wait until it's avail back home

I'm very surprised by Roland. I didn't think they had it in them to do all of this. For years, the whole talk they gave was "we look to the future, we don't look back"... but I've always said synth technology would go back to analog like guitar gear went back to tubes after a rendez-vous with digital in the 90s. I don't think it was that hard to see it coming.

Yamaha, your turn now. Oh wait... Yamaha is gone.

I'm especially interested in the bit crusher

I tried to buy a blipy crusher off the muff buy & sell but the deal fell thru

I've been using the d16 decimort since its inception but I feel, and have also seen in other posts, that it isn't as 'phat' sounding as it could be

the effect of various bit-conversions is what gives the original dx7, mpcs, so-1200s etc their vibe and I find it really difficult to emulate

I have the, what I assume is just a really basic, bit crusher plugin that comes with Cubase. I've never found a use for it.

Bit crushers. What are they good for?

But you need the System 1 first though, right? You can't use this standalone? That was my impression anyway.. although I bet you could use the effects in anything you wanted..

Oh wait.. it's the plugout module in rack synth module form?

I hate to say I haven't heard enough from the system 1 yet to know how I feel about it

there's 2 semi-separate product lines

one is the system 1m plug-out in rack form with cv/gate I/O. its designed to integrate with other eurorack modules. it's a 19" rack

the other product line is 4 stand alone euro rack effect modules like delay, distortion, bit crush & scatter

Ya, so there's the System 1M, which as far as I know is nothing more than a rack / tabletop System 1 (so, standalone). BUT! With patch points!

And, then there's the four Aira modular effect pedals, which can be standalone but also Eurocrack compatible. A bitcrusher, a delay, a "scatter effect", and a distortion.

And finally, they have the analog Roland System 500 Eurocrack, basically System 100 / 700 modular clones which is being developed with the help of noted boutique pedal / Eurocrack manufacturer Malekko Heavy Industries.

Very cool stuff, personally I'm not interested in any of this so far, but I can see how they could be very useful.

And yeah this is a 180 degree turnaround from the past, I need to start pulling up Roland hating threads to see how wrong we were.

I have to admit, regardless, that the Modular System 1 is a first for anyone.

I think it'd be great for roland to say spin off an SH201 or Gaia series of modules. filter oscilator etc too.. wishful thinking.. but still

Who would have thought Roland would be cool again?

Alas, I have no intention of starting a money-consuming modular exploration

Try putting one after an effect on an aux channel.

I've done this on an echo, set so that the echo was initially unaffected, then got more 'crushed' as it decayed. Neato!
