Changing up the studio

Postby ElectricPuppy » Tue Mar 31, 2015 5:09 pm

I'll make a new thread so I don't keep littering in the studio show-off thread.

Anyway, this is the new rack:

It came in questionable packaging, but it was unharmed. I put it together in about 10 minutes. There's 9U on the bottom and 12U on the tilt top. Probably I'll just keep it locked in the shown position. One thing I didn't think about is that there's really no place to anchor cables. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about that. I thought I saw a "cable management rack panel" at some point while I was shopping for this, I'll see if that might work.

Also, I FINALLY bought dust covers for my keyboards. I should have done this like, I dunno 30 years ago. DERP.

I think that's a great option if you have room and that's the same issue I always had  keeping gear I sometimes used around a desk I used for other stuff. Ideally, all you would need to do is plug in an audio cable to the PC and one to the power and then roll 'er old bones away when you're not using it.

Last year, I bought two of these. One for the mixer and power amps for the pa in the live room, and one for the recording mixer and reference amps and....cassette deck  in the control room.

I advise you to shop carefully: the one you pictured has those square holes, I was able to find some with standard threaded 10/32 that are of good quality, but I had to research it for a bit to find them at a low price.

Testing....

edit: dammit. I would just FTP them to my own server, but the corporate firewall prevents it. Why can't this shit be easy?

Pulled all the gear out of the old desk and the old rack, and dropped it into the new one. I liked this arrangement because it put the Virus down low where it would be easy to tweak while seated. However, there was a problem....

In that arrangement, all the weight wound up at the top of the rack, and that REALLY made it want to tilt back, even though I cranked-down the pivot knobs. So I wound up removing all that again...

This is how I ended up. Virus at the top, not ideal, but it'll do. also, LIGHTS!

Also, apparently Ye Olde SPX90 won't power on anymore. Probably not worth trying to fix.

Aaaand I'll have to see them when I get home, apparently.

STUPID FIREWALL

ETA: Oh, I see them now.

So... what are you doing with your old desk? It's nice and VERY similar to the one I have. Selling?
