Winter NAMM 2015

Postby ElectricPuppy » Thu Jan 22, 2015 7:03 pm

Let's talk NAMM stuff, shall we?

Hey, lookie here: Dave Smith done and gone revamped the Prophet again: http://www.davesmithinstruments.com/product/prophet-6/

Notice the branding is "Sequential"! Evidently he managed to secure the old name again. Neat. So, Want or Do Not Want?

and I wanna say I thought that came out already :confuse:

Explain to me what happened? There's three iterations of the prophet now? the 12, 8 and now 6.

And the six does what different?

But yea, that is cool about the sequential thing

Yeah, I'm not sure why another roll of the Prophet, when the P12 is only, what, a couple of years old? One thing they seem to be trumpeting is the totally analog signal path, so maybe that's the deal.

I wouldn't kick one out of bed.

I haz two words for you.

Discrete.

VCOs.

Ok that's one word and an acronym. Still.

I bet the 'lutz are going absolutely crazy. Maybe I should check out the old place.

As for me, it's an absolute want. But can't haz.

Analog polysynth. You know, that thing Moog can't figure out...

Anyway I would rather have that p6 than a p12 or 8.

Maybe he'll get crazy and make a Prophet-66 to cover the 10

Yes, the 6 should kick the other Prhopet synths butts based on specs. unless those VCOs are thin sounding or the filter sucks... which I find a bit unlikely. I think the Prophet 8 put DSI on the map and gave Dave money to do what he wanted. He doubled down with the hybrid 12 to do what *he* really wanted, and now is releasing the 6 to give the "connosseurs" what they have been asking for.

Edit: as I suspected, the slutz are having a collective orgasm.

I get a lot of "forum is too busy" messages when exploring. The P6 announcement broke Gearslutz.

Yes, new osc and filter design = DSI demos that I think actually sound good. No Curtis chips that I never liked sound of.

The P6 and Omnisphere 2 are the NAMM announcements that have my interest. Because I already own Omnisphere, one is going to be much cheaper than the other, of course.

Omniwho?

And don't forget the new Roland with the minkeys. Best NAMM ever :poke:

I assure you Moog will release one now. Otherwise they just became obsolete. The P6 has a 4-pole filter based on the original P5 - but a 4-pole nonetheless. That's gotta be pissing off someone at Moog

It sounds faptastic.

But a polysynth should have five octaves.

But maybe the price has been shortened accordingly?

2799 is the price.

5 octaves would probably cost over 3K for an all discrete analog design. I mean, I can't imagine Moog or Studio Electronics releasing this for less than 5K. Or, 4999 :)
