The 688 is just a cassete tape recorder. But I've heard one song made with it that sounded very good. That smooth tape compression. I'm sure there's some audio leaking between tracks with that small a tape giving 8 tracks, but that shouldn't be a huge deal.

No. I don't recall any bleeding.

That's even better then :thu:

The problem is the prices I'm seeing. Yikes. You'd think nobody would want that old tape technology anymore... as you said, the 2488 is much more full featured and reliable yet much cheaper in the used market...

What happened to yours, did you sell it?

Yeah he sold it. We were just looking them up a few weeks ago though because if his Tapes.

Back in the 90s I transferred an EP we did from the 688 to the DA88, and then later transferred to digital performer. I'm curious now to check again for bleed

There's people offering services that will convert your 688 tapes to digital for you... you don't have to buy one just for that.

$30 per tape at http://www.thetapefarm.com/rates.html

In fact it might be worth doing the 688 tape you converted to DA88 again, for that price... DA88 didn't have the best converters, kinda like the ADATs...

It sounds awesome. Actually everything I ever recorded on those DA88s sounds kickass.

Also it would cost him a fortune at $30 a pop. He is very prolific.

I am tempted to post a preview of the cover I'm doing exclusively with the S8, but I will try to refrain because I don't much like posting unfinished thingses.

No. But your posting made me wish I had something to post as well. But I don't because it isn't finished. :idk:

ETA: I guess it could be a tease because so far it sounds fucking awesome though.

Have I ever mentioned I love the System 8? HAVE I?

Posting only when you're finishes is an extra incentive to finish something :thu:

I don't mind posting unfinished material to show my friends. I have the philosophy that events occur when they are needed. If I feel compelled to do something, I just do it, and often folks will comment to me that it came at a opportune time for whatever had been going on in their lives. It's kind of cool in my opinion.

Well there's that too. I usually don't post unfinished stuff, but if I felt compelled to do it... I'd just do it.

In a very weird mood at the moment... the stuff in London over the weekend has really got to me, dunno why, not connected to it or anything... anyhow, I felt like finishing this up, Shakespeare's Song from Cymbeline arranged to Ramin Djawadi's Dr Ford:

British politics is weird and strangely compelling. The PM can call an election whenever. The candidate stands and the winner sits. What posture does the looser assume? Does it involve two fingers?

Winners and losers has become a strange concept in itself.

Cameron had a solid mandate to lead but called the Brexit referendum because of the threat from leavers in his own party, he did it expecting to win and it all blew up in his face.

May had a dodgy mandate so called the snap election to firm it up and ended up without a majority to lead, now apparently is in the 'coalition of chaos' with a Northern Irish party most people here had never heard of, for now.

Labour were unelectable two years ago under Milliband, a large chunk of their support in Scotland had fallen off the face of the earth due to scottish national parties, the tories moved the boundaries to make it harder for them and the papers have shit on Corbyn constantly, yet he ends up around 2,200 votes short of being pm.

Anything could happen next. :freak:

Have you seen Boris Johnson? He is like our version of Trump.

May well be next up when the Tories have done backstabbing May. :freak:
