Speaking of carp...

This is one of my favorite scenes from any movie, ever. The acting is brill, the writing is stellar, and it just makes me giggle uncontrollably every time I see it. It's a scene from The Exorcist III. (it's not really in full context, but this is the only bit I could find.)

The guy playing the priest is barely keeping it together there.

This is my second version of this. Much happier! I wanted a drifting, meditative feel and I think i got it pretty good in this one.

So, I know you guys aren't fans of posting unfinished tracks, but I want your opinions on how the lead in Crockett's Theme is going. I *think* I'm getting pretty close. I've mixed it a bit loud in this sample for critique purposes. So far, I have a couple of PCMs from the KK layered - a marimba, an "airy" choir, and then layered with a square wave with slight modulation, warmed by the KK's tube. What else, if anything, do I need to do to the lead?

I still have lots to work on. Gotta put in the bass, guitar, lots of other percussion thingses, and a couple of effects.

Sorry for dropboxing, EP.

If it makes you feel any better, this mix is really bad at this point lol. So you've not missed much. Just wanted feedback on the lead noises.

Lead sound is really, really close, SI, nice work. If I were to tweak it at all, I might aim at making the attack partial just a *hair* more "donk" than "plunk". But if you didn't, it wouldn't really matter, it's certainly very close already.

I like the lead sound (I know we can't comment on the mix yet but with added effects and the lead blending better with the other instruments it will sound fine). Maybe a hair of a portamento just to slide into the notes might bring a bit more expression to it. I don't know. Don't listen to me :) It just sounds a bit... mechanical (maybe too quantized?), but it's probably how it's sitting in the mix.

It's the bass sound that is a bit too clean I think. Hence Clav's smooth jazz comment :) That's my guess. I would work on that bass sound a bit - make it more aggressive and fat (does anyone still use the "phat" term?). I mean it sounds good and it's not the final mix yet. Nice to see how it's coming along :thu:

Jazz? I don't even.

I'm gonna overdrive the arp bass. Though it's not really THE bass in the song. There's a much deeper, bassier bass that I haven't added yet.

The answer is tempo. After minutes of exhaustive research, I see Hammer made moar than one version of Crox Theme. I guess I've only heard the snappier opening credits one, of which it's tempo is about 120 bpm. SI's is wut, 96? Which one is cannonical? idunno... I think I prefer the fast.

Yes. Doing some research, I also see that he did at least two versions, and I believe the version I'm using for reference was a re-recording for a later release. Off hand I can't remember the tempo, but it is in the 90's somewhere.

It reminds me of the creepy background noises to all those 60's NASA films they used to show us in grade school. Fond memories, those. :thu:

I posted this to cheer up mike. :) It's a side, side, side thing I've been wanting to do for a while.. just a garage band sounding industrial thing with a bit of halloween thrown in.
