The original Waldorf Pulse was a DCO based analog with a standard 4 pole (24db/oct) low pass type filter. It had a very nice sound. I had a Plus for a long time until I went through a "no fixed analog monophonics" phase of sorts. I think the biggest drawback was the matrix style programming interface, which could be slightly tedious for some things (the Pulse 2 at least has an LCD, the original Pulse only had alphanumeric LED type thingies).
I haven't heard much about the Pulse 2 (other than before recently, "it hasn't been released yet!"). It should be analog, not VA. Some of the new features seem nice.
