My wife and I had a good talk last night and hammered out some details.. the baby will be taking over my former man cave and red room. When our eldest moves out, his room becomes the play / video game room for the tyke.

So.. dad is gonna build a room in the garage. I'm thinking maybe and roughly 10 x 13 or so. The one thing I do know is to keep it not square and I'm thinking maybe to even have it on it's own breaker and power conditioner, so I can just flip everything off on the way out. This will also give my wife somewhere to hang her guitars and give her a place to play and get away from the kids too..

OK any general things I should know otherwise? I'm not looking for an uber recording space and I know plenty of guys with construction experience who can help me frame in and drywall the space but anything I should know? any neat ideas or small things that would make life more convenient in there?

I'm not going to lie, the last two years have been stressful and I've not been making music. I want to get back to it and we're taking baby steps towards being a family again.

One thing I'm thinking of doing is using quad outlet boxes..

To keep it simple, I would be sure to put some carpet in there, a remnant is fine and not too much money. Also consider hanging some carpet on a wall or two, or a corner doing like four feet on each joining wall. I was able to hang it with drywall screws and 1/2" washers with no problem.

Carpeted walls will only cut highs, but that's good for killing the ringing

What are your feelings on the eggshell things you put on your mattress under your fitted sheets? That *seems* like a much cheaper alternative for bona fide foam wall treatments. Wouldn't it do the same thing, but for MUCH less monies?

congrats on the baby retro!

there's likely tons of great garage/studio ideas on teh internets

trent reznor's studio (nine inch nails) is also in his garage!

he uses those furman racked power things and they're cheapish second hand if you want to baby-proof it

:smoke:
