Ikea Bathroom Remodel

Over the winter break last year I recently did some upgrading in my master bathroom. Just a bit of paint, some new sealant on the tub and shower and a new Godmorgon sink and vanity from Ikea. Installing the vanity and sink was quite easy, as it uses the standard cleat “n” hang system you’d find on cabinets.
The difficult part was getting the Rinnen plumbing system to work with the plumbing in my house. The Rinnen pipes are actually a thin walled, 1 inch tubing and aren’t compatible with the standard US 1.5 inch plumbing kits that are available at most home and hardware stores.
The trick is to get a 1-1 inch compression coupler and connect it to the outlet of the Rinnen plumbing and then enlarge it from there to mate up with your sewer pipe via a combination of bushings and joints. You can see how I accomplished this in the photo below. I also found it was easier just to take .5-.5 inch, male – male pipe adapters to connect the faucets to the water lines. My terminated at pinch fittings and I didn’t think it was worth the effort to replace them, so I just strapped the extra line out of the way.

I call the photo above, the Super Mario maneuver. As you can see, it was quite a pain getting the drain to mate up to the sewer pipe. As a result, my vanity sits a bit higher than I would like and eventually, I would like to have the tub removed and a shower enclosure and stone tile professionally installed. Most likely then, I’ll have a plumber come in and do the pipes.
