OUT OF THE VOID

That’s a change eh? Just your friendly site owner / operator Metrosonus here and I wanted to give you guys an update on the goings on that have been occurring lately.

CMG has been open for just about a year and a half now, with the previous six months being rededicated to evolving the site. It’s been redesigned and I feel I can say with great confidence, we’re well on our way to carving out our niche in the synth world / blog-o-sphere.

Here’s a quick run down on some of the changes that have taken place:

1. I redesigned the site

by hand, a while ago and I opted to stay away from prefab templates. I wanted something that was clean, easy to read and put the content front and center. My biggest commitment is to you, the reader and I want you to have the best possible experience here. Whicn brings me to my next point..

2. I Dropped The Advertising

or more exactly, Google Ads dropped me. From what I could Google (ouch, the irony), my best guess is I was a low performer on ad impressions. I then signed up for another ad campaign or two and then subsequently removed them from the site. The ads were, let us say, clutter at best. They slowed the load times to a crawl and made us look like a cheap, neon colored, Tokyo dime store thug compared to other sites. So it had to go.

I then tried a few affiliate programs, which felt like more clutter to me and to be honest, I hate going to a site and then feeling all like “Oh great, that guy just wants trap me into buying something”. And if I hate it, yea you get the picture.

To be honest, I run the site on pocket change. I’m at a point where I don’t need advertising and I’m going to pass that down to you and keep the site free of ads. What I wouldn’t mind doing in the future though, is going on the barter system for the indie developers out there and trade gear (or VSTs etc) for ad space. I help you, you help me…

3. Tarekith

I really enjoy having him on board. He is without a doubt, the best “upgrade” to the site. His excellent experience as the man in the street, so to speak, is a much needed and welcome contrast to my hunched over a typewriter, crusty newsman.

4. The Comments

It seems they are on the rise here out on the main blog. If you want to set an avatar for yourself, go to Gravatar.com, which is a universal avatar service that is used by many blog sites and works universally on WordPress sites. Simply sign up using the email and nick name you use in the comments, and whammo! You’ve got a custom avatar.

For the record, I did toy with using Facebook based log-ins, but judging from behavior here and on other sites, most people aren’t comfortable with that and that’s ok with me.

5. The Forum

A strange thing is occurring down there in the seedy underbelly of CMG; we’re getting lurkers. Way more than we have members, so we know you’re out there! Stop on in and say hi or at least to contribute a LOL or two to our fine selection of ongoing comedy threads. Registration is easy and hey, you make pick up a tip or two. The forum can be found here, as well as from the first link under the logo at the top of the page.

6. The Community

It’s you guys that make this place possible. The guys (or gals) in your bedrooms, garages and dive bars.. it’s all about you here. I want to hold out my hat, tip jar and that weird basket on a stick they poke you with at church to ask for your contributions. Send in your compositions, your tips, you rigs (live and studio) and tell us about them. Great things happen when great people get together to share ideas.

7. Studio Spotlight

Last but not least, I have one more way to show my appreciation for you guys. Each month, I’m featuring a studio to show off. It can be yours next! Nobody is turned away and it’s first come, first serve and I want to see you featured!

Wanna know how? It’s easy! If you haven’t already, join the forum and then respond in this thread and answer the questions. It’s that easy and soon you’ll be the envy of all your friends and the life of the party!

So thanks for sticking with us and again, I want to reaffirm my commitment to you guys, the readers So please feel free and use the contact form and let us know how were doing. It’s only up from here out! Looking forward to seeing you there..
